Description
The bridge at Rookery Hill is a private road bridge located over a gulley in Ashtead Park. It was likely built in the early 1880s and has recently been rebuilt. The structure is made of Portland stone and cast iron, with abutments constructed from stock brick. The deck is now supported by a reinforced concrete floor. It features a single span, with cast-iron girders at each end resting on large cast-iron brackets. These brackets are supported by short semi-columns that have carved capitals, which are attached to the return faces of broad banded pilasters made of ashlar at the corners of the abutments. The bridge also includes dentilled cornices and balustraded parapets.
