Description

House, extended and divided. The original part dates from the late 16th or early 17th century, with a 19th-century extension to the right. The building is timber framed, with brick infill on a rendered plinth; the central section has cement infill, the left side has colourwashed brick, and the extension to the right is brick and tile hung, incorporating bands of fishscale pattern. It has plain tiled roofs that step down to the right. The original section has two storeys and four framed bays featuring arched bracing on the first floor. A corbelled stack is located to the left of the centre of the original range. The first floor has five diamond-pane leaded casement windows, and a four-light mullioned window to the right. There are four windows on the ground floor. The extension to the right has one window on each floor. There are two first floor windows on the right-hand return front. A door is situated to the left of the centre (No. 1) and another to the right (No. 2). The roof has a smoke bay plan with straight wind bracing.

A separate house, also dated to the 17th century, was extended in the 19th century. It is timber framed with whitewashed brick and part-rendered infilling to the right, brick infilling to the left on a stone rubble plinth, and C19 red and blue brick infill to the left-hand extension. The roof is tiled. The original central cottage is three bays wide, extended to the ends. It has two storeys, a central corbelled stack, and further stacks to the ends. The original cottage has a square panel frame. There are three first-floor windows and three casements below in the old range. A door is located to the right of the centre, leading to Old Kingsland Cottage. To the right, there are two sashes and one leaded casement on the first floor, and one sash and one casement below. The lower sash to the right is under a cambered head on the ground floor. Further extensions are situated to the rear. The building was undergoing restoration at the time of re-survey.
