Description
This is a pair of Nettlefold monuments located approximately 2 metres south of the chancel of the Church of St Mary and St Nicholas. They date from the later 18th century and commemorate Robert Nettlefold, who died in 1761, and Elizabeth, the wife of William Nettlefold, who died in 1792. The monuments are made of limestone and brick, featuring matching designs. Each headstone has a shaped top with elaborate carvings, including a radiant eye encircled by a serpent above a skull embraced by cherubs. The inscription on the later monument is worn and partly illegible.
