Description
These are 18 mid-19th century almshouses constructed of red brick, featuring a steeply pitched red tiled roof. The windows are adorned with diamond-shaped panes and stone dressings, with nearly all windows consisting of two lights. The doorways have four-centred arches with stone dressings, and the doors are fitted with large hinges.
The central section projects slightly and includes one storey and an attic with a hipped roof, containing three window bays, each topped with gables. The building displays long and short quoins, three two-light casement windows, and three doorways, with the central doorway featuring a hoodmould above. A string course runs along the structure.
Flanking this central section are east-west wings, each one storey high, with two windows and two doors. Beyond these wings is a cross wing that also has one storey and an attic, featuring gables. Each gable end has one two-light casement window above and one door below. Tall chimneys, set diagonally on brick plinths with stone dressings, are positioned on either side of the gabled wings. Photographs of the building are available in the National Monuments Record.
