Description

Elm Cottage is an 18th-century building. It is constructed of painted brick, with weatherboarded sides and an outshut. The roof is tiled, and there is a brick chimney stack on the right-hand side. The cottage has three casement windows with cambered heads on the ground floor. A gabled weather porch, supported by wooden piers, is at the front. Inside, the internal partition is made of thin, machine-cut timber, and the staircase rises facing the front door. Joan M Harding’s book, "Four Centuries of Charlwood Houses," discusses the cottage on page 44.
