Description
Vintners Wells is an early 16th century open hall house that was altered in the 17th century and incorporates an early 17th century barn at the south end. The building has two storeys and is timber-framed with white colour washed brick and stucco infill, featuring some diagonal braces and a gabled tiled roof. At the northern end, there is a 16th century gabled cross wing, with the ground floor refronted in brick and the upper floor tile hung, which includes four casement windows. The open hall was rebuilt in the 17th century, during which a chimney was added. The cross wing retains early 16th century floor joists and has a restored open hearth fireplace, along with a kingpost roof. The upright posts have jowls. The barn consists of three bays and features Queen struts and a clasped purlin roof with straight wind braces, also with jowled posts. In the 19th century, the barn was used to house the local fire engine.
