Description
The gate piers and walls at Lower Lodge, located approximately 300 metres south-west of Cherkley Court, date from around 1870. They are constructed of stucco and consist of a set of four gate piers with attached walls that enclose the entrance forecourt and the south side of the garden. The inner and outer pairs of gate piers are square in section, standing about 3 metres high. Each pier features plinths, banded rustication, prominent moulded cornices, and two-step tops topped with ball finials. The piers are connected by quadrant walls that have balustraded parapets. Additionally, the outer west pier is linked to a matching wall that bounds the garden, which also includes a matching pier and quadrant at the south-west corner. In front of the outer piers, there are S-shaped walls without parapets that enclose an oval outer forecourt.
