Description
The lodge on the east side of the drive to Cherkley Court is a gate lodge built around 1870. It is constructed of stucco on brick and features a slate roof with a cruciform plan. The building is single storey and symmetrical, with a plinth and banded rusticated corner pilasters. It has round-headed openings with moulded architraves that include imposts and keystones, and a low-pitched roof with barge-boards. The west front has a projecting central wing with coupled windows at the front and single-light windows on the sides, flanked by round-headed doorways in the main range, with the doorway to the right being blind. There is a chimney at the crossing of the roof ridges. The sides and rear of the lodge have similar openings. The interior has not been inspected. This lodge is similar in style to Lower Lodge.
