Description

The King William IV Public House is a public house located in Albury. The southwest wing is an early 16th century timber-framed building that was refronted and extended to the northeast and northwest in the 19th century. The original section features a ground floor made of stone rubble with brick dressings, which is now painted, and a first floor of painted brick. The building has a tiled roof and a tall original external brick chimneystack on the northwest side. The front includes a cambered 20th century casement window and a right side 20th century half-glazed door with a penticed hood and brackets. Decorative 19th century bargeboards adorn the gable, which is also present on the 19th century northwest wing. This wing is stuccoed and has a six-pane sash window on the first floor, a twelve-pane sash window with horns on the ground floor, and a left side half-glazed 20th century door.

Inside the southwest wing, there are two bays of timber framing with a cambered tie beam, one original and one replaced curved tension brace, jowled posts, and old floorboards. The early 19th century features include a doorcase and a staircase with stick balusters. The ground floor has an open fireplace with a chamfered bressumer, a salt niche, and wooden slots for a crane, along with exposed floor joists.
