Description
The Robertson War Memorial Obelisk is a memorial marker located in woodland, approximately 200 meters north of Netley House. It stands about 2.4 meters tall and is designed as a stepped obelisk with a square base, resting on a low step. The obelisk is made of cast aggregate concrete. A cast aluminium plaque on the front face of the obelisk dedicates the memorial, stating that the land was purchased for the National Trust from funds bequeathed by W. A. Robertson in memory of his brothers, Norman Cairns Robertson, Captain of the 2nd Battalion Hampshire Regiment, who died on June 20, 1917, in Hanover, Germany, and Laurance Grant Robertson, 2nd Lieutenant of the 2nd Battalion King's Own Scottish Borderers, who was killed in action in France during the Battle of the Somme near Delville Wood on July 30, 1916.
