Description

Old Friars is a former hall house dating from the early 16th century, with alterations and extensions from the 17th century and further changes to the gables in the late 19th century. The building is timber-framed, featuring decorative half-circle framing on the gables with rendered infill, and whitewashed brick infill on the rest of the structure. It has a plain tiled roof and is positioned at right angles to the street. The house is two storeys high with four framed bays and a gable at the left end. There are two rebuilt diagonal ridge stacks located to the right of the center. The first floor has two diamond pane, leaded casement windows, with two more below. In the gabled bay, there is a three-light casement window on each floor. A large gabled brick and timber porch is situated to the right of the center, featuring arched, leaded windows on the sides and a flanking ribbed, arched, and studded door.

At the rear, the first floor is tile hung, and there is a gabled wing projecting to the left under a dormer. Inside, some framing is visible along with a crown post roof.
