Description
The Limes is a stable block dating from 1743, now converted into a house. It is constructed from sandstone rubble with brick quoins and dressings, topped by a hipped plain tiled roof. A wooden lantern, covered in lead, sits on the roof and features a square shape with clock faces on the north and south sides, along with arched openings beneath a ribbed dome and gilt sphere finial. Originally located at the center of the roof, the lantern has been moved to the right of center due to the demolition of the end bay to the left.
The building has two storeys and stands on a brick and stone plinth, with a plat band above the ground floor leading to a gabled break with brick coping on edge. The entrance front features an elliptical gauged brick arch to the first floor, positioned right of center and adorned with a keystone. There are two casement windows on either side of this arch and an additional casement window at the end right. The ground floor has four windows, each with cambered heads. To the left, there is a 20th-century single-storey extension, and a door is situated to the right of the gabled break, sheltered by a flat hood supported by wooden brackets.
At the rear, there is a stilted gauged brick arch to the gabled break, also featuring a keystone and a cornice at the base of the gable. The first floor has a keys toned gauged brick elliptical arch, with one cambered head and leaded casement windows on either side of the center. Additional first floor windows are located to the left and right. To the left, there is a 20th-century wing with a hipped roof that contains squash courts. This building was formerly the stables for an 18th-century house.
