Description

Crocknorth Farmhouse is a house dating back to the 16th century, which has undergone significant remodelling and extension. It was extensively altered in 1874 by the Lovelace Estate and further extended at the rear in 1919. Originally a timber-framed structure, the core of the building is now faced with flint and ironstone rubble, with brick dressings, and has plain tiled roofs, half-hipped to the front with end gablets. The house has a T-shaped plan. It is two storeys high, with a large central corbelled stack on the front facade, further stacks to the ends and rear. The front elevation is regular and features a lozenge and guilloche band above the ground floor, along with decorative eaves. The windows are leaded casements; two-light outer windows on the first floor have roll-moulded brick surrounds and label hood mouldings, while single-light windows in similar surrounds are on the ground floor. A central, gabled, two-storey projecting porch has a cambered-head first-floor window in a roll-moulded surround. A ribbed door is located below, also within a similar decorative cambered-head surround. The left-hand return front has a gable end attic to the right, and leaded casement windows, including a four-light ogee tracery window to the ground floor under a label moulding. A gabled porch is centrally positioned with a cambered head and a leaded, three-light casement window with brick mullions on the first floor. A studded door is below, set in a three-step roll-moulded and chamfered surround.
