Description

Sumners is a hall house dating from the 15th century, with a possible earlier core. It was altered in the 16th century and restored in the 20th century. The house is timber-framed with whitewashed brick infill and has a steeply pitched plain tiled hipped roof with gablets. It is two storeys high and has four framed bays, with a central rear ridge stack, partially rebuilt. The windows are diamond-paned, leaded casements, arranged irregularly, with three three-light windows and one narrow rectangular leaded casement, plus a further plain casement on the first floor. There are five windows on the ground floor, and a door is located to the right of the central stack. Pentice extensions are present at each end, and garage doors are on the left side. Inside, the principal posts are jowled, and the roof was reputedly built without purlins.
