Description

Mill House is a house with a timber-framed core dating from the 17th century, substantially refaced and extended in the 18th and 19th centuries. The main part of the house has a red brick front on a rendered plinth, with further red and blue brick extensions to the left. The original timber frame is of thin construction with brick infill, set back from the left end. The roofs are tiled, of varying heights, and include a slate section to the left of centre. The house has an irregular plan extending at right angles to the lane. The front elevation has two storeys with brick dentil eaves and a front stack to the left, along with further stacks to the rear. There are two casement windows on the first floor, two below, and a leaded window to the left. A half-glazed door is under a gabled hood in the centre. The return front has a one-storey and attic range, set back to the right of centre, with a gabled dormer. A three-light leaded casement window sits beneath a four-centred brick arch. A planked door is centrally positioned under a shallow gabled hood. A two-storey barn extension is to the left, with irregular fenestration, including three leaded casements under cambered heads on the first floor. A stable door is on the first floor, and double doors are on the ground floor to the left. Two framed bay extensions are set back to the left end. Inside the older section, some timber framing is visible, mainly on the ceilings.
