Description
This is an office building located 30 metres behind Farnham Road Hospital in Guildford. It was originally a service building for the hospital, possibly a laundry, and dates back to around 1866, with alterations made in the 20th century. The structure is built from coursed sandstone blocks with brick dressings and features 20th-century hipped roofs covered in machine tiles.
The building has two storeys with a three-bay central block flanked by single-storey wings, and there is a 20th-century addition at the rear. Notable architectural features include diagonal brick cogging above the ground floor of the central block and brick plat bands at the eaves of the side wings. The first floor has three segmentally-headed glazing bar sash windows set in brick surrounds, while the ground floor features one similar window on the left side of the central block and a 16-pane glazing-bar sash window under a rebuilt gauged brick head on the right side. The central entrance has a half-glazed door, and the right-hand wing contains a 6-pane sash window, with one window on the left-hand wing and three narrow windows on the right-hand return front. The building is included for its group value with the hospital, which opened in 1866.
