Description
12 The Mount is a house, now used as offices, dating from around 1730. It underwent extensive remodeling, restoration, and extension in 1986. The building features colourwashed render on brick, with a 20th-century brick return wall to the right, some stone in the left-hand return wall, and 20th-century roofs that are obscured by a parapet.
It stands three storeys tall on a sloping site, with a plinth below and plain bands over the ground, first, and second floors, along with sunk panels in the parapet. The front is five bays wide and has 20th-century 12-pane glazing-bar sash windows, with five on the second and first floors and four on the ground floor. The entrance features a 20th-century door with eight fielded panels set in panelled reveals, flanked by a panelled pilaster surround to the right of centre, and topped with a tent-roofed hood supported by scrolled brackets.
Inside, there is some much-restored panelling on the first floor and a turned baluster staircase, although most of the balusters were replaced in 1986. The building is included for its group value.
