Description

The Pirbright Tomb, located 20 feet northeast of the Church of St Mark, is a chest tomb dating from around 1900. It is dedicated to Lord Pirbright and is made of stone set on a stepped stone plinth. The tomb features panelled sides adorned with Jacobean style strap work decoration, including ribbons and fruit. Each end of the north and south sides has two fluted, tapering balusters that support a coved and stepped lid. The lid is carved with the Pirbright coat of arms and an illegible inscription. Lord Pirbright was a Member of Parliament, Secretary of State, and a Privy Councillor.
