Description

Step Cottage is a house dating from the 17th century, which was significantly altered in the 18th century and extended to the rear in the 20th century. It is constructed of brown brick, with some sections in a header bond and blue header bricks on the left-hand return front. The roof is tiled. The building has a plinth and two gabled dormers with casements, set over a tall basement. A plat band of brick runs above the ground floor, and the eaves are dentilled. End stacks are present. The front facade is regular, with two casement windows on each floor. These windows have three lights under gauged brick heads with raised central keystones. A panel of brickwork in a diamond pattern, using blue header bricks, is positioned in the centre of the first floor. The central doorway is a six-panel design, with the top two panels glazed within an angled surround featuring roundels. A rear extension projects at a right angle to the front on the left-hand side.
