Description
Lydling is a house dating from around 1700, with alterations made in the late 18th century. It is constructed from coursed sandstone with ironstone galleting and red brick dressings, topped with a hipped plain tiled roof featuring rendered, coved eaves. The building has a half-H shaped plan and consists of two storeys and an attic, which includes gabled dormers with leaded diamond-pane casements in the end wings.
To the right, there is a blocked basement with a brick plat band above the ground floor. The house features tall end stacks with corbelled tops on plinths, as well as a central stack at the rear. The symmetrical facade has three bays, with the central bay being deeply recessed. Each outer bay has a 16-pane glazing bar sash window on both floors, with the ground floor windows set under cambered heads. The central window on the first floor and the windows on the inner flanks of the side wings are blocked with red and blue brickwork.
The entrance consists of a central half-glazed door within a moulded surround, topped by a metal-traceried transom light and sheltered by a flat hood. There are pentice roofed extensions set back at the left and right ends of the house.
