Description
Westgate House is a late 17th-century building, dated 1684 on the staircase ceiling. It is located in Epsom and was formerly known as the Woodcote Hotel. The house is three storeys and an attic, and it is faced with painted stucco. The front has five modern sash windows, each with a plain architrave, cornice, and panelled apron. A central portico features Doric columns. The eaves cornice is brought forward over the windows, and the roof is steeply pitched with slate tiles and 19th-century round-headed dormer windows. The rear elevation is characteristic of the late 18th century. The presence of mathematical tiles is noted. A central Venetian window is situated on the first floor, and there’s a pedimented doorcase. The interior has been gutted. Westgate House, together with Woodcote Mews numbers 5 and 2 to 14 (even), numbers 10 Woodcote Road, Woodcote Green House, and number 2 Woodcote Green Road, form a group of buildings of group value.
