Description
The entrance arch to the garden of Bourne Hall is an early 19th-century structure made of stucco, notable for its striking design. The central feature is a giant round-headed moulded arch that holds a suspended octagonal glazed lamp. This arch is flanked by square piers with raised panels and ornamental archivolts, and above it is a panelled tympanum, frieze, cornice, and a blocking course with capping. At the center, there is a raised panelled parapet adorned with a shell that displays the achievement of the Arms of Barritt. Above this, a larger-than-life statue of a heraldic talbot is positioned. The side sections of the entrance are lower and feature moulded round-headed arches, square raised panelled outer piers, panelled friezes at the level of the main archivolt, cornices, blocking courses, and shorter panelled parapets topped with griffins. The entrance is completed with iron gates.
