Description
The railings, plinth, and rectangular basin with an inscription tablet are located on the west side of High Street in Ewell. The cast iron railings, likely dating from around 1816, are set on a stone plinth and enclose a square paved area that features a rectangular basin. The inscription tablet reads: "This cistern was made and fenced at the charge and expense of some of the inhabitants of Ewell and the trustees of the Epsom Road. Local tradition says that this spring was enclosed to commemorate the Peace of Waterloo, the dipping place made as recorded above. 1916 A.D. 1834 Robert Brown Surveyor."
