Description
72 High Street is a late 19th-century building. The ground floor is constructed of brick with alternating ashlar courses, while the first floor features roughcast with applied timber framing. The building has a pitched tile roof with a coped gable supported by kneelers and stands at two storeys tall. It has a coved eaves cornice and three window ranges. The ground floor windows are set within arcuated roughmoulded stone imposts and keystones. The entrance door has a brass art nouveau handle. On the first floor, there is a central canted oriel with a modillion cornice, a mullion and transom window with lead glazing bars, and it is topped with a gable that has a terracotta finial, a wooden drop finial, and barge-boards. The flanking windows also feature mullions and transoms with lead glazing bars. Above the ground floor, there are two ornamental terracotta panes in yellow, red, and green, displaying the legends "Wines and Spirits" on the left and "Ales and Stout" on the right, although these are obscured by modern fascia boards.
