Description
The Spread Eagle Hotel and No. 89 is a late 17th century building that has a later stucco finish. It features two storeys, a basement, and an attic, with five modern sash windows. The building has a parapet and a square, tall hipped roof covered with old tiles, which includes three flat-topped sash dormers with glazing bars. The central doorway is approached by steps and is sheltered by a hanging canopy supported by iron suspenders, featuring a dentilled cornice and fluted pilasters.
To the right of the main entrance, there is a two-storey section with a wide vehicle entrance on the ground floor and a large overhanging canted bay window with two sashes at the centre on the first floor. This section also has plain eaves and a hipped tile roof. Further to the right, there is another portion that maintains a similar general character but has modern alterations. The north front of the building is generally similar in character, featuring a modern glazed entrance with a double flight of steps.
The Spread Eagle Hotel and Nos. 75, 77, 87, and 89 form a group, with No. 87 noted as a building of local interest.
