Description
The Clock Tower, built in the mid-19th century, is located on the central island of Epsom High Street. It is constructed from red and grey brick with ashlar dressings. The tower stands on a one-storey base that includes public lavatories. This base features oversailing courses every alternate course and has one fixed window with glazing bars on each side. Above the base is a modillioned ashlar cornice that arches upward in the center. Two lavatory blocks, which are slightly lower, mirror this design to the east and west. The entrances to these blocks are also lower and repeat the arrangement, with doors located on the east and west elevations.
The tower itself has two scrolls at each corner at the bottom and features two arched blind panels on each side. Each side of the tower also has a clock set within a semi-circular pediment that is open at the bottom, adorned with vase finials and anthemia above. At the top, there is an open octagonal lantern with a modillion eaves cornice, a crocketed pagoda roof, and a weather vane.
