Description
This building is a group of almshouses located on Octagon Road, constructed around 1912. The structure is made of red brick and features rusticated quoins. It has a plain tiled swept hipped roof with rusticated end stacks. The building is single storey with an attic beneath a central thermal dormer. The central block is angled to the octagon, with end projections that are canted at 22½ degrees from the main block. The front has an irregular arrangement of seven casement windows, with the entrance located in the left projection. Whiteley Village was established by William Whiteley of Whiteley's stores to provide for thrifty elderly individuals and was designed on an octagonal plan by Frank Atkinson, utilizing prominent architects of the time.
