Description
High House is a house built between 1830 and 1840. It is constructed of stock brick and features a slate roof with stone coping and window cills. The building has three storeys and three window spaces, including a central block. It has 12-pane sash windows set in 4½ inch reveals with gauged arches. The doorcase, which was originally central, has been moved to the left side and features an original rectangular fanlight with three circles and a reeded band below. The wooden door is flush panelled at the base and glazed in the upper half. Above the doorcase is a cornice supported by brackets, and there are two tall chimney stacks at the ends of the house.
The rear elevation mainly has early 19th-century sash windows, one of which has horns, and a round-headed doorcase with a semi-circular fanlight that has radiating glazing bars. Inside, the house retains original doors, including a six-panelled door and a bifold door leading to the dining room. The interior also features an elliptical arch, a curved staircase with stick balusters, a mahogany handrail, and a pillar-shaped newel post.
