Description
Upper Court is a house built in the mid-19th century, designed in the Italianate style. It features yellow brick with stucco dressings and has hipped slate roofs with brick stacks at the ends. The building is two storeys high with an attic in the centre, and it has quoined ends and eaves brackets. The first floor has five tripartite windows set in projecting stucco surrounds, which contain 20th-century mullioned and transomed leaded glazing. There is a semi-circular attic window at the centre. To the right, there are glazed doors behind a one-storey portico supported by four Doric columns. The left side has a three-bay extension with a gable front. A central bellcot is present, and there is a door to the left with rendered imposts in an arched surround. At the rear, there is a polygonal tower on the left with thermal windows at the top stage, and single-storey bow windows to the right. A 20th-century extension is located at the right end. The house was undergoing enlargement and complete renovation at the time of the last survey.
