Description
The Belvedere, located 250 yards southwest of Claremont House in Esher, is a belvedere built around 1716 by Sir John Vanbrugh. It is constructed of colourwashed brick and features a tiled roof. The building has an H shape with four square, three-stage, battlemented corner towers. The central section has two storeys, with three bays on each side that include mostly blocked arched windows beneath projecting brick imposts, which continue as plat bands around the structure. The cills are rendered and project outward. There is a blocked arched door at the south corner, set within a vaulted porch recess. At the time of the last survey, the belvedere was in a dilapidated state.
