Description
The Chequers Public House is a 17th-century building located on Goddards Lane in Chipping Norton. It is constructed from coursed and squared rubblestone, with stucco on the top floor that may be covering timber framing. The building has a gabled slate roof featuring dressed stone copings and two stone stacks with brick caps. It has an L-shaped plan and consists of two storeys and an attic.
The ground floor has irregular 20th-century windows on the west and south fronts, but there is a deep reveal of a refenestrated window beneath the south gable, indicating that it was originally a two-light mullioned window. Additionally, there is a blocked two-light mullioned window on the east wall at first floor height. A 19th-century lean-to parlour has been added at the angle of the two wings, which includes sash windows.
