Description

The stone pillar and base of a wayside cross is a monument located outside the Town Hall in Chipping Norton. It dates from the late medieval period and is probably from the 17th century, though it was erected in 1955. The pillar stands eight feet tall and features a moulded base and moulded capital, resting on a weathered stone that is believed to be part of a medieval wayside cross. This pillar is one of nine that originally came from the market hall, which was replaced by Repton's building in 1842.
