Description
The outbuildings attached to the north of Barton Abbey date from the late 17th century and 18th century, with remodelling that occurred in the 1850s. They are constructed of coursed limestone rubble and feature gabled roofs made of stone slate and artificial stone slate. The buildings form a courtyard plan and include remodelled shelter sheds with stone piers on the east side, as well as a stable and granary range to the north, which has stone steps leading to the left door and a late 17th or early 18th-century post and pad roof. To the west, there are mid-19th-century brick outshuts facing the yard. The front of the stable yard was remodelled around the 1850s in a Tudor style, featuring coachhouses and stables with moulded carriage arches and a small gablet with a ball finial above the stable door, which is flanked by mullioned windows. These outbuildings are included for their group value with Barton Abbey.
