Description
The almshouses, built in 1821 for William Townsend, are constructed from limestone ashlar and feature a gabled Welsh slate roof with moulded ashlar ridge and end stacks. The building is designed in a Tudor style with a 6-unit plan and has two storeys, displaying an 8-window range. There are label moulds over paired 20th-century plank doors, which are set in chamfered stone architraves. Additionally, label moulds are present over stone-mullioned segmental-headed windows that have sunk spandrels. There are outshuts at the rear. The interior has not been inspected. These almshouses were endowed by William Townsend, a haberdasher from London and a native of Witney, for the benefit of aged unmarried women.
