Description
46 Market Square is an inn that has been converted into offices, dating from the early to mid-18th century, with alterations made in the 19th century. The building is constructed of coursed limestone rubble with ashlar quoins and features a stone-coped gabled stone slate roof with brick stacks at either end. It has a two-unit plan and stands two storeys high with an attic, presenting a symmetrical three-window façade. The entrance consists of a 20th-century door with an overlight, set within a mid-19th-century doorcase that has console brackets supporting a flat hood. The ground floor includes canted bay windows with tripartite sashes, while the first floor features timber lintels above tripartite sashes that flank an 8-pane sash window. Hipped roof dormers with 19th-century two-light casements and convex-moulded eaves are also present. At the rear, there is a late 18th-century range built of similar materials, complete with a brick end stack. The interior has not been inspected but is likely to be of interest. This building was formerly known as the Bull Inn.
