Description

The Cottage is a house dating from the mid to late 17th century, situated on The Green in Cassington. It is shown on Ordnance Survey maps as Spurriers. The house was constructed with coursed limestone rubble and has a gabled concrete tile roof, with a stone stack at the right end. It originally comprised two units and has one storey and an attic. The original design featured a two-window range. A timber lintel is visible above a blocked doorway. Modern casements are set beneath timber lintels. Gabled dormers are present, containing 19th-century three-light leaded casements.

The bay to the left of the house is of one storey and attic, with a stone slate roof and a stone ashlar stack at the right end. A late 19th-century bracketed gabled hood shelters a 20th-century door. A late 19th-century sash window is set within a chamfered stone-mullioned surround to the right, and a gabled dormer contains a two-light casement. The interior has not been inspected, but is likely to be of interest. The building is included on the register for its group value.
