Description

Phoenix Cottage is a late 17th-century house located on the east side of Cassington Eynsham Road. It began as a thatched cottage, as shown on Ordnance Survey maps. The original section is constructed of squared and coursed limestone, with a gabled concrete tile roof, half-hipped to the right, and a left-hand end stack finished in brick. The building was later extended to a two-unit plan.

The original house has two storeys and a two-window front. Flat stone arches are found over 20th-century windows, which have replaced earlier openings. Two doorways have been blocked. An 18th-century bay was added to the right, featuring a timber lintel over a 20th-century door, a flat stone arch over a 20th-century window, and a gabled half-dormer. A 20th-century rear extension has also been added.

Inside, the original section has heavy stop-chamfered spine beams with run-out stops. The 18th-century extension has a two-bay collar-truss roof with butt purlins.
