Description

The Mill House and The Mill are a late 17th and early 18th century mill house and attached water mill, later altered. The building is constructed of coursed limestone rubble with wooden lintels, and has Welsh slate and concrete plain-tile roofs, along with brick stacks. The house has a 3-unit cross-passage plan, plus a Z-shaped mill range. It is two storeys high with an attic. The front of the house has four windows, with a slightly later bay to the left containing a 3-light casement at each floor, and a 3-light casement window above the entrance, which has a flat canopy supported by scroll brackets. The remainder of the front has three tall 2-light casements at the first floor, and two 3-light casements below. The steeply pitched roof has three stacks and continues over the former mill to the right. This section has two small windows at each floor, with 20th-century casements, and a central datestone inscribed "MT/1789". A lower L-shaped rear wing returns from the right. Inside the house, there are stop-chamfered spine beams. The mill retains some shafting and the waterwheel, which is now hidden beneath the floor.
