Description

This is a barn, attached cowhouse, and cart shelter located approximately 10 meters east of Idbury House Farmhouse. The barn dates from the late 17th century to early 18th century and has undergone later alterations. It is constructed of roughly coursed limestone rubble and features a corrugated iron roof with coped verges on the north gable end. The barn has a wide doorway with plank doors and a wooden lintel on the far left, another wide doorway with an opposing entrance to the rear on the left side, and a plank door to the right. There are triangular air vents on the north gable end.

The mid-19th century cowhouse, which has a hayloft above, is attached to the south gable end of the barn. It is also made of roughly coursed limestone rubble and has a slate roof. The cowhouse features a stable door in the center, a 20th-century center-hung casement window to the left, which has a hoist doorway with a plank door and a gable breaking the eaves above. To the right of the stable door is a reset rectangular chamfered window, which is cut by a later lean-to. There is also a 2-light chamfered mullion window, likely reset, on the first floor of the right gable end.

Attached at right angles to the east of the barn, on the roadside, is a 4-bay cart shelter, probably dating from the early 19th century. It has wooden posts at the front and a roughly coursed rubble back wall, topped with a corrugated iron roof. Inside the barn, there is a collar and tie beam roof with five bays, a double butt-purlin roof in three bays, and raking struts to the principal rafters, along with struts from the collars to the principal rafters. The cart shelter also features a collar and tie beam roof with double butt-purlins.
