Description

The Blackditch Farmhouse is a 17th-century farmhouse with a later 17th-century rear wing. A datestone reading W/RS 1654 is visible in the left gable. It is constructed of coursed limestone rubble with a gabled stone slate roof and stone end stacks. The plan is L-shaped. The main farmhouse is two storeys and an attic, with an irregular two-window front. A 20th-century conservatory has been added to the front. A chamfered timber lintel sits above a 20th-century plank door and a 2-light casement window. Another lintel covers a mid-19th century sash window with margin-lights; a concrete lintel covers a 20th-century window to the left. 20th-century casements are set within a gabled dormer and a roof dormer. A 17th-century two-light wood-mullioned window is visible in the left gable. The rear of the property and the rear wing have a late 17th-century modillioned cornice. The rear wing is two storeys and two windows, constructed of similar materials, with blocked openings, a mid-19th century door, and sash windows with margin-lights. A one-storey service bay with a half-hipped roof extends to the rear. The interior of the main front range features chamfered beams, a stone ovolo-moulded fireplace in the room to the right, plank doors and a late 17th-century bolection-moulded fireplace on the first floor. The rear range contains chamfered beams, a large open fireplace with a bressumer and bread oven, and a fine late 17th-century straight-flight staircase with heavy turned balusters on a closed string.
