Description
The Village War Memorial, likely built around 1920, is constructed from limestone ashlar and features a square plan set on a base of three steps. It has a chamfered plinth with a moulded string course at the bottom and a cornice at the top. The memorial is adorned with circular corner shafts that are topped with ball finials. At the top, there is a steep pyramidal cap with a ball finial, which includes gabled lucarnes with blind trefoils. Each side of the memorial has raised stone panels; the north side lists the names of those who died in the First World War, while the west side lists those who died in the Second World War. The south and east panels bear inscriptions: "TO LIVE IN HEARTS WE LEAVE/BEHIND IS NOT TO DIE" and "YOU GAVE YOUR BEST/THEN LAID YOU WEARY DOWN/AND TOOK YOUR REST," respectively. This memorial is included for its group value.
