Description

This is a pair of houses, now shops and offices, located at 1 and 3, 3A and 3B Market Place, Woodstock. They were likely built around 1800. The exterior is constructed of coursed limestone rubble with an ashlar front. The roof is gabled, covered with Welsh slate, with a brick end stack. The building has an L-shaped layout, including a rear left wing. It is two storeys high with an attic, and has a two-window facade. A stone lintel sits above the doorway to a passage on the right, and a 20th-century door with overlight is positioned on the left. The central facade features two early 19th-century bow windows. Flat stone arches accommodate the first-floor six-pane sash windows. Raised storey bands are visible, and there are hipped dormers with late 19th-century two-light casements in the attic. A two-storey, L-shaped wing to the rear, built of similar materials, partially encloses a yard. The interior remains unexamined.
