Description
Vickers Hotel and Restaurant is a building that was originally a house, dating back to 1668. It is constructed of coursed limestone rubble and features a gabled stone slate roof with brick stacks at either end. The building has an L-shaped plan with a rear right wing and stands two storeys tall with an attic. The facade has a double-gabled design with a two-window range.
There is a timber lintel above the central 20th-century double doors, which are supported by scrolled wrought-iron brackets and a segmental hood. To the left, there is another door with a timber lintel. The building also features early 19th-century eight-pane sash windows and 17th-century three-light wood-mullioned windows in the attic. Inside, the front range has stop-chamfered beams. The hotel was built for Alexander Johnson, who was a mercer and alderman.
