Description

This is a pair of cottages located approximately 30 meters southwest of the Agents House on the Sarsden Estate. They were built in the mid to late 18th century and were partly remodeled in the mid-19th century, with later additions and alterations. The cottages are constructed of roughly coursed limestone rubble. The left cottage features a stone slate roof at the front and slates at the rear, while the right cottage has an artificial stone slate roof.

The left cottage is two stories tall, while the right cottage has one story and an attic. The left cottage has two late 19th-century casement windows with wooden lintels in the center of the first floor, and similar windows directly below the left window and to the right on the ground floor. There is an infilled doorway with a 20th-century casement inserted. It has integral end stacks with dripstones; the shaft of the left stack was rebuilt in 20th-century red brick, and the right stack has been patched.

The right cottage, which has an earlier two-room baffle-entry plan, features late 19th-century segmental-headed casements on either side of a gabled timber porch. The porch has a four-panel half-glazed outer door and an inner boarded door. Above the casements are gabled half dormers, with the left dormer decorated with applied wood. There is a yellow brick ridge stack immediately to the left of the entrance and an integral end stack to the right, both topped with dentilled brick capping. A 19th-century lean-to is located at the rear of the right cottage.

These cottages are included for their group value.
