Description

Sarsden Cottage is a late 17th or early 18th century cottage, which has been divided into two dwellings. It is constructed of roughly coursed limestone rubble with a straw thatched roof. The cottage is one storey high with an attic. The windows are arranged irregularly, with four eyebrow eaves dormers containing 2-light leaded casements. On the ground floor, there is a casement and boarded door to the left, two casements in the centre, a 20th century stone porch with a possible late 18th century doorcase framing a half-glazed door to the right of centre, and a casement to the right, all with leaded windows. There is an inner boarded door to the porch. A stone ridge stack sits in the centre of the roof. Low thatched ranges extend to the left and right; one has a 19th century fixed-light window to the left and a casement to the right, while the other has two leaded casements and a truncated end stack. The interior, which could not be inspected during a resurvey in August 1987, is reportedly characterised by stone-flag floors, stop-chamfered spine beams with run-out stops, and a collar truss roof. The cottage shares a similar plan and appearance with the adjacent Cobblers.
