Description
Beard Mill is a water mill located in Stanton Harcourt, dating from the mid-19th century, with an earlier section likely built around 1575. The structure is made of squared and coursed limestone, featuring a brick wall on the right gable and a gabled roof covered with asbestos sheets. It has two storeys and an irregular three-window layout. The front includes segmental stone arches over a plank door to the left, 20th-century three-light casement windows, and a plank loading door with a stone shelf. To the right is a one-storey block with a loft, constructed from coursed limestone rubble and a similar roof. This block has a timber lintel above 20th-century double doors to the left and a concrete lintel over a 20th-century three-light casement window. A 19th-century extension at the rear features a reset datestone from 1575. Although the interior was not inspected, the right block is noted to have a collar-truss roof with three and a half bays. The mill is included for its group value.
