Description
The building is a former stable block, now converted into three houses, located approximately 70 meters northeast of Filkins Hall. It is dated 1810 on a shaped stone plaque on the front gable and was constructed by Richard Pace of Lechlade for Edward Colston of Filkins Hall. The structure features a dressed stone center bay flanked by rubble stone wings, all made of limestone, with stone slate roofs that are hipped at both ends.
The tall center bay, which projects slightly, has a shaped gable topped with a bellcote. It includes flush quoins, a plinth, raised stone bands, and a moulded cornice. The semi-circular arched coach entry, now partially blocked, is surrounded by a moulded architrave with vermiculated rustication blocks and a band at the impost level. Above the entry are two round windows with reeded surrounds and vermiculated keys, also featuring a band. A clock is set in a similar roundel in the gable.
The arched bellcote has a moulded cornice, a semi-circular gable, a ball finial, and a weathervane. The flanking two-storey stable wings each consist of three bays, with plinths, first-floor band courses, and chamfered quoins. Each wing has a central doorway, tall flanking windows, and shorter first-floor windows, all in flush stone surrounds with keyblocks. The lower openings have segmental arches, while the upper ones have flat arches. The rear of the building is more irregular, featuring restored surrounds to the windows and a lunette in the central gable.
