Description
Spelsburydown is a farmhouse, now a house, dating from the 17th century and re-fronted in the 18th century. It is constructed of coursed squared limestone with ashlar dressings, topped with a roof made of Stonesfield-slate and artificial stone-slate. The building features a 2-unit lobby-entry plan that has been extended to form an L-plan and stands three storeys tall.
The symmetrical front has three windows, with 16-pane sashes in the outer bays at the ground floor, 12-pane sashes at the first floor, and casements at the second floor. The windows above the central doorway, which features a 6-panel door, overlight, and stone canopy, are both narrow. All openings are adorned with ashlar flat arches that have projecting keyblocks. The roof is topped with a large central stone-based stack.
Both gable walls display aligned stone-mullioned windows with three lights, three lights, and two lights, each with labels. A rear wing extends from the right at a similar height, and the angle has been infilled with a lower range. The interior has not been inspected.
