Description

Dean Mill is a watermill and mill house, likely dating from the 18th century with 20th-century additions. It is now a single dwelling. The building is constructed of coursed limestone rubble with wooden lintels, and has a Stonesfield-slate roof with brick and stone stacks. The main structure comprises three units plus associated ranges. It has two storeys and an attic. The three-window front elevation features two-light casement windows and two doorways positioned between the bays. The left section was originally the mill and still has a metal waterwheel attached to the gable wall. The steeply pitched roof features two stacks and two gabled roof dormers on the house section. A further two-window section, probably from the 20th century, is set back to the right, linking to a former outbuilding and returning forwards in a converted timber-framed section. The interior retains much of the original wood and metal gear. (W. Foreman: Oxfordshire Mills: 1983, p106)
