Description

Bee Cottage, The Malt House, The Cottage, and Vine Cottage are four cottages located on Abbey Street in Eynsham, dating from the early to late 18th century. They are constructed of coursed limestone rubble with gabled stone slate roofs, featuring a stone stack at the left end and brick ridge stacks.

No. 8, on the left, has a two-unit plan and stands two storeys high with a two-window range. It has concrete lintels over 20th-century windows and a timber lintel over a 20th-century door, which is sheltered by a 20th-century timber porch. No. 6 has a three-unit plan and is taller, also two storeys with a two-window range. It features a 20th-century door and a rendered porch, with concrete lintels over 20th-century windows and inserted garage doors to the left, while the first-floor windows have timber lintels over them.

No. 4 is a two-storey, one-bay range with a 20th-century porch and door to the right, concrete lintels over 20th-century two-light casements, and a timber lintel over a 20th-century two-light casement above. The Cottage is a single storey with an attic and has a two-window range, with timber lintels over a 20th-century door and casements, as well as 20th-century half-dormer casements.

The rear of No. 6 was widened in the early 19th century, and No. 4 includes a 18th-century service wing made of similar materials. The interiors of Bee Cottage, No. 4, and No. 8 have not been inspected.
